JTI Concludes Clean Water Supply Access Project with Misr ElKheir and Launches New Housing Initiative for Underprivileged Families
JTI Egypt celebrated the successful conclusion of its “improving access to clean water” project in Shebin El Kom in Menoufia Governorate, in collaboration with Misr El Kheir Foundation, which has improved the lives of thousands of underprivileged families. The event also saw the launch of a new initiative, Sakan Kareem, aimed to support the construction and furnishing of more than 40 homes for underprivileged families.
The event featured an official signing ceremony and the launch of the new initiative, attended by senior leaders from both sides. Representing JTI were Mr. Mutsuo Iwai, Chairman of JT; Ms. Mariana Salib, General Manager of JTI Egypt; and from Misr El Kheir Foundation, Eng. Amal Mobadda, Chief Fundraising Officer. Their presence reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between the private sector, civil society organizations, and government entities.
The ceremony was also attended by Mohamed Moussa, Deputy Governor of Menoufia, among distinguished government officials, guests, and representatives from Misr El Kheir Foundation.
The celebration marks the culmination of joint efforts to enhance access to clean water. JTI and Misr El Kheir Foundation had signed a cooperation agreement to provide safe, clean drinking water to more than 18,500 individuals across Shebin El Kom villages. The project focused on replacing deteriorated water pipelines with new ones to ensure a steady supply of drinking water and significantly reduce the daily hardship faced by residents in securing their basic water needs.
Beyond improving essential services, the project has contributed to strengthening public health and enhancing overall quality of life within the local community.
“We are proud to deliver tangible outcomes that directly improve the lives of thousands of residents in Shebin El Kom. Access to clean and safe water is a fundamental step toward enhancing quality of life and public health. This achievement reflects JTI’s commitment to investing in initiatives that create meaningful and lasting impact,” stated Mariana Salib, General Manager of JTI Egypt.
“Our commitment to supporting local communities is unwavering. Today, we are pleased to launch the ‘SakanKareem’ initiative, through which JTI will support the construction of 40 new homes for families most in need. With this step, we aim to provide safe living conditions and a dignified environment for beneficiaries, reaffirming our role as a responsible partner that places community well-being at the heart of its priorities,” added Salib.
Eng. Amal Mobadda, Chief Fundraising Officer at Misr El Kheir Foundation, described their partnership with JTI as a leading model of corporate social responsibility. She noted that the partnership is built on a clear approach for identifying the most underserved governorates and applying rigorous criteria to ensure projects reach individuals and families who need them most.
Eng. Mobadda further highlighted the importance of trilateral collaboration between private sector entities, civil society, and government bodies, represented by Menoufia Governorate, which has resulted in delivering more than 3,300 cubic meters of water to benefit over 18,500 individuals. She emphasized the critical importance of providing clean drinking water to underprivileged families and the transformative role such projects play in improving lives and strengthening community responsibility, adding that the coming period will witness additional development projects guided by strict criteria to ensure services reach their rightful beneficiaries.
The Sakan Kareem initiative comes as part of the national presidential program dedicated to improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable families in rural areas by upgrading their homes and ensuring access to safe and dignified housing.
